Part 2b: The Serious Retreat Center

This is the house the Buddha told me to get in spectacular Chaloklum Beach town. It’s 10 minutes from temple. Sometimes you will transition from here to temple depending on time of day. It’s huge inside. That’s the kind of car it takes to get to the temple. Some Thais can do it on motorbike, my girlfriend can’t. Some people can walk all the way up 2km, mostly flat except for 80 yards at end, not difficult just rocky. You will have to decide how long you will stay, in Thailand or KP or Samui or even trips to Bali considering visas, etc. It’s your life. I’ve been here 12 years on retirement. Retreats mean not much extracurricular adventures. But you can do it all that KP has to offer after the retreat or move here permanently if you’re smart. Options: You can rent a decent motorbike or 4x4 from my friends or hire a driver to take you anywhere. You can rent a longtail boat for 1500 baht and go completely around KP, etc. You can go stay at the Sanctuary Center after. There are too many things to do here until we talk or email. My girlfriend speaks good English and can help with other things, even finding you a wife

can do this on Friday 6-8pm at Zen Beach. You know this is the Full Moon Party Island along with scads of other events of every ilk.

When he’s not flirting he can teach you kiteboarding after or rent a SUP or jetski.

The Sanctuary Bay only reachable by longtail but can do a one-day adventure, fabulous food.

Procedures and Policies:

1. I don’t want to be a travel agent. But you fly to BKK, catch a daytime flight to Koh Samui airport on Bangkok Airways, and get a taxi to Bangrak ferry to Haad Rin for the 5pm ferry or if you’re early there’s a 10:30am. We’ll meet you or send a van. The ferry is cheap and 50 minutes.

2. Who can come? Good question. Since there’s only 2 rooms and you have to respect each other’s privacy, there can be 2 guys or 2 ladies or 1 couple and 1 m or f or 2 couples, there’s plenty of room. It’s a retreat not a tourist hotel so be serious and be quiet and listen to mantras all day. I suspect one week might be enough to tolerate. I’m open to discuss anything, nothing is cast in stone at this point. Maharaji just said to me make a temple and make a retreat center. Then you can build a large ashram later. There’s no hour by hour schedule, make it up yourself, I can help. Whatever you’re willing to pay extra for can be done even private yoga instructors and healers of all schools.
   I’m hoping Maharaji will help screen the appropriate sadhaks

3. Costs: I think a week of rent and basic food should cost $350 (including expensive AC electric in Thailand). Payment in dollars first day. That’s about $50/day, 1750 Thai baht a day room and food, etc. (35 baht to the dollar now). That’s a tight budget here, basic. I’d like your opinion, I’m not Mr. Hilton.

4. Rules: No smoking in the house. It may annoy others. If you do, start reducing or quitting. Pot is legal her now but control yourself. This is not a prison. I’m easy, I don’t do anything. Maybe couples can be celibate for a week or two.
   (Anything that is illegal for me to do under normal circumstances (this includes drinking, drugs, vandalism and all other illegal activities) is also illegal during this retreat and so will not be done.) Think modesty, personal space, maintain appropriate phone usage.

5. Emergencies: KP has a hospital and big ones on Samui. Many clinics, pharmacies and ambulances. Mosquitoes, they get me everywhere. Bring lots of repellent. Maybe I am going to do mosquito nets and even a meditating area one.

6. You are not alone: There is one other house she rents to a nice Myanmar family as you come in way up front. Just pretend they don’t exist. One friendly dog (don’t feed.) You can hike up and down the road. No tigers.

I suggest some of you move here to paradise. It’s one of the safest places now on earth, but also with some niggling Thailand problems as usual. Many children with good private schools. perfect weather, sports close to India and Bali. Anyway this is what Maharaji has told me to do.
